Who is the Theater Owner?

A theater owner is more than a landlord. He or she must have a sharp theatrical sense, knowing which shows are likely to run a long time, and which are going to close overnight.

A successful theater owner keeps his theaters occupied – a theater that is “dark” (a theater term meaning closed) is a theater that isn’t making money.

Today, the leading Broadway theater owning organizations (among them the Shubert Organization, the Nederlander Organization and Jujamcyn Theaters) work with outside producers, and act as producers themselves.
